Types of sedation
IV sedation. This is a type of general anesthesia. Throughout the sedation, we closely monitor vital signs and maintain a consistent level of sedation. A caregiver must present during and after treatment to take the patient home and monitor for 24 hours.
Oral sedation. This is a type of conscious sedation that is used to relax the patient during dental treatments. The patient is awake but will feel relaxed and sleepy during oral sedation. The patient will be given pills to take at specific times before the treatments as directed by our doctor.
Nitrous oxide. Commonly known as “laughing gas”. The patient is awake but will feel relaxed and sleepy during Nitrous Oxide sedation. Because Nitrous Oxide enters and leaves the body quickly, it is generally safe for patients to drive home afterward.
